The young Dutch designer and researcher Anouk Beckers is coming to Zagreb City Museum, where she is going to present her work in the field of clothing and fashion design.
She is going to lead a two-day garment production workshop entitled JOIN Collective Clothes and present her other projects, including the project BOOKLOOK.
JOIN Collective Clothes is a design and research project in which Anouk explores fashion as a collective practice, focusing on collaborative design, production and wearing of clothes. The project is realized through workshops in which participants are encouraged to jointly design and create garments made out of individually crafted parts. The project's main tool is an open manual with patterns, conceived as a modular clothing system that comprises four different patterns: top (J), sleeve (O), pant leg (I) and skirt segment (N).
The manual explains how to create these four different shapes, i.e., the parts that, when combined, make up the garment. Workshop participants are going to design and produce a JOIN clothing item using the patterns from the manual, surplus fabrics and/or second hand materials.
Thanks to the modular design, JOIN garments can be combined, which means that workshop participants can create collaborative clothing items out of individually crafted parts, thus producing modifiable and dynamic clothes.
Zagreb City Museum is also organizing an artist talk with Anouk Beckers. We are going to discuss JOIN Collective Clothes and a new research project called BOOKLOOK which merges fashion magazines with actual garments, resulting in a series of wearable fashion magazines. We are also going to touch on topics such as Anouk's training at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and her collaboration with the Warehouse Platform (Amsterdam).
We kindly invite you to the artist talk and to the workshop, which offers a creative and atypical experience of fashion.
The workshop is going to take place on October 14 and 15, from 10:30 to 17:30. . The artist talk is open to the public. It is going to take place on October 15, at 18:00 and is going to be moderated by Ivana Čuljak, project organizer and coordinator.
