Collection of glass is rich and heterogeneous, and has an important place among other collections of the Museum of Slavonia. Since the institution of the Museum, in 1877, various glass jars, lamps and glasses from the 19th century have been gathered and now represent the foundation of the Collection.
Later on the Collection of glass was enlarged with donations and purchases. A pharmacist and collector Ivan Govorković gave the greatest contribution when he donated the beautiful collection of glass (151 pieces) to the Museum in 1941.
Today the Collection of glass in the Museum of Slavonia has more than 400 different pieces which chronologically and in style cover the whole 19th century.
According to their use we can divide them into decorative glasses, usable glasses, decorative and usable vessels, different usable exhibits - bottles, cylinders, mirrors, chandeliers (often combined with wood or metal), and stained glass windows.
When workmanship is concerned, all the techniques of glass processing and ornamentation are represented - blowing, founding and pressing, then crystal, cut and coated glass painted with enamel paste and transparent colours, engraved and cut glass. In the Collection of glass the most represented objects are glasses and other decorative objects, together with some usable objects, mostly from Austrian, Czech, German and Hungarian manufactures. A few examples of national and Slavonian manufactures have also been preserved.
